Reassessment of property in Cook County is done within a triennial cycle, meaning it occurs every three years. 2023 is a reassessment year for the South and West suburbs.

Here are things to know:

•Look out for your reassessment notice in the mail. Save our calendar to view mail date and last day to file appeal for your township:

•If the property characteristics listed on your assessment notice are incorrect, or if the estimated market value of your home is significantly more than what you believe your home could sell for in the current real estate market, you should file an appeal. The last date to file an appeal will be printed on your notice.

•Our website has the latest information on township openings and last day to file an appeal. Save this webpage link of our Assessment and Appeal Calendar:

•Filing an appeal online is FREE and easy with our application. All you need is an email address. Learn more at

Details about Paying Taxes.  Property owners who do not have mortgage companies paying their taxes can make tax payments in person, by mail, or online at the Cook County Treasurer’s web site,  Those wishing to pay in person can do so at the Cook County Treasurer’s downtown office at 118 N. Clark Street and at any Chase Bank in the Chicago area.

If money for property taxes is paid into an escrow account with a taxpayer’s mortgage company, the financial institution should receive the tax bill electronically, even if the taxpayer also receives a copy of the bill.  Taxpayers with property tax escrows held by their mortgage companies not to pay property taxes on their own, as this may result in a double payment of taxes.  But taxpayers with mortgage escrows should check the Cook County Treasurer's website to verify that their mortgage companies have paid the taxes.
