The Lemont Township Human Services Department is committed to assisting our residents in need.
The Lemont Township Human Services Department provides financial assistance and referral information to Lemont Township individuals and families during severe economic crisis.
Is a financial aid program that helps residents meet basic needs until employment or another source of income, such as Social Security, disability or public aid, is obtained. Eligibility is determined by established guidelines based on income, assets and household size. Applicants should have no other potential means of income and should have applied for all possible benefits to be eligible.
Is financial aid granted to qualified individuals and families on a short-term basis to alleviate life-threatening circumstances or to assist residents in returning to self-sufficiency. If an individual or family is eligible, they may receive assistance once in an 18-month period to meet basic expenses.
To be eligible for either General Assistance or Emergency Assistance, the applicant must meet certain financial and non-financial eligibility requirements and must supply his or her Social Security card, a lease or mortgage statement, pay stubs (for the past 30 days), bank statements, and proof of registry with Public Aid and the Illinois Job Service.

Family Assistance Fund
Is a special fund which began in 2009, and assists Lemont residents who may be struggling with paying for medication, utilities, food, housing, or other unexpected expenses that prove to cause a hardship. We are also able to utilize this funding to put on special programs for our youth and seniors.
This is fund is available to our residents because of the generous residents of Lemont who make donations. If you would like to donate, please provide a check payable to “Lemont Township Family Assistance Fund.”
Lemont Township is also a service extension unit for Salvation Army.
Salvation Army Service Units provide individual and emergency service according to general polices and the decisions of local committees.
Lemont Township partners with CEDA to offer Energy Services such as LIHEAP and LIHWAP. These programs offer a one-time grant towards your Gas, Electricity and Water bills. For eligibility requirements and more information click here.
Lemont Township partners with two local pantries to assist our families in need.
O Bethany Lutheran Church 500 Lemont St. Lemont, IL 60439 is open Tuesday- Thursday 9:30am-12:30pm.
O Lemont United Methodist Church 25 West Custer St. Lemont, IL 60439 is open Tuesday – Thursday from 9:45am-11am.
Residents must complete an application in order to attend these pantries. The application can be found here or you can stop in the office to pick one up today.
To continue assisting families in our community, the Food Pantry accepts donations of canned vegetables, soups, fruits and tuna, as well as macaroni and cheese, spaghetti sauce, peanut butter and jelly, and toilet paper. All donations are appreciated and may be dropped off at the Food Pantry during its hours of operation.
You can also make a monetary donation to the Local Food Pantry’s. Please provide a check payable to “Lemont Township” and notate Food Pantry.
“Rules of the Road”
This is a review test for seniors required to take the written or driving test in order to renew their driver’s licenses. This FREE class is offered three times a year.
2023 sessions are all on Fridays from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Drivers’ Safety Class
This two-day class is designed to help older drivers improve their skills and safety behind the wheel. Course completion may qualify participants for a discount on the liability portion of their automobile insurance.
The class is held at the Lemont Township Police Department, 14600 E 127th St, Lemont, IL 60439. The two-day sessions are typically held from noon to 4 p.m. each day and participants must attend both days. The fee is $20 for AARP members ($25 for non-members) and is payable to the instructor on the first day of class.
Reduced Fee License Plate Stickers
The state Department on Aging’s Benefit Access Program, formerly known as Circuit Breaker, allows the Illinois Secretary of State’s office to provide reduced-fee license plate stickers for senior citizens and persons with disabilities who meet specific qualifications.
An application must be submitted online at the Illinois Department on Aging’s website. Paper applications are not available. For more information, go to Illinois Department on Aging or call the Township to schedule an appointment at (630) 257-2522.
Lemont Township Senior Citizen Association
The Lemont Township Senior Citizen Association has been a part of Lemont since July 18, 1974. They hold monthly meetings, social events, and holiday outings throughout the year.
If you are looking to meet new people, make new friends, get out and socialize, the Lemont Township Senior Citizen Association is for you! By coming to meetings you also gain access to the latest updates happening at Lemont Township. For more information or to register, please click here.
The Senior Citizen Association is not funded or run by Lemont Township, however, we are a liaison for them and assist with events. We can also answer any questions you may have.
Summer Lunch Program
Lemont Township would like to assist families with ensuring you are able to provide lunches for your children throughout the summer. We know and understand the difficulties of providing nutritious lunch meals for your families especially with the rising food costs. We will be providing monthly gift cards to you to help alleviate some of these expenses.
You must be registered with the Local Food Pantry in order to participate in this program. More information about this program is available at the end of April and must be turned in by the end of May.
Giving Tree Program
Lemont Township assists families in need with providing Christmas presents for their children. In order to be eligible, you would need to register with the Local Food Pantry and fill out additional documentation. This documentation is available at the end of September and must be turned in by the first week of November.
